Refusing to help the FBI hack iPhones, was it a good or bad choice? If Apple went through with it that would be against the law and horribly violating the privacy of people. Apple refusing to help the FBI hack iPhones was the right choice.
Creating the software for the FBI would violate the Fourth Amendment. “The Fourth Amendment guarantees people this right to privacy. Individuals have the right to possess information without having to share it with the government. And Apple has the right to provide products that help individuals protect this right.” (Holcombe, 2016) If Apple created the software it would've violated the law, the rights that people have to not share personal information with the government. Those people have a right to not sharing all of there data on their phones. Apple has the right to deny access to their customers’ phones, for privacy protection. Eliminating thousands of fanatics won’t really help stop this problem. “Our political leaders have been slow to heed those warnings, but now, hopefully, they are starting to realize that what could be World War III has already started. It will not end until we eliminate the tens of thousands of fanatics eager to perpetrate atrocities based on hoary 14th century religious decrees.” (Flora, 2016) If this is so important, then political leaders shouldn’t be slow to realize it. They should of already of aided the heeding warning. Hacking into iPhones won’t completely eliminate terrorism, and a possible outcome of hacking iPhones would be anger citizens and people finding a way to block the hack. Helping the FBI isn’t worth violating rights of the company. ”...forcing Apple to create such software would have violated the rights of the company and its stakeholders.” (Holcombe, 2016) Creating the software would of violated the protection rights that Apple provides with their products. If they did create the software, the stakeholders of the company would probably not want to invest in the company’s products. Apple refusing the FBI access to their customers phones was the right thing to do. Making software that invades people's privacy is against the law. Eliminating thousands of people won’t stop terrorism, and helping the FIB isn’t worth violating laws and rights that everybody has.
